My body is the subject of my works and I am also the works main audience. My body has been commented on and harassed, touched when I didn’t want it to be touched and told what it should wear and look like. I am also guilty of shaming my own body and treating it abhorrently because of its queerness and brownness in a society where I have been pushed to think I would be more valued with lighter skin, a thin figure and a gender conforming presence. In my work, I am attempting to create a space of contemplation and admiration for my queer physical form as I engage in witnessing my presence while recreating it in paint or fabric.
